The 2016 “summer of Seema” continued into 2017 as a year of tremendous self-reflection and a deeper focus on my social work.
We kicked off the year with our annual fundraiser for Children’s Hospital of Boston. We were so blessed to gain the support of Urban Grape and Barcelona Wine Bar this year. Chelsea from UG poured the most luscious wine and Dre from Barcelona donated more spanish tapas than we could possible consume. CHB was grateful to receive a check for babies in the cardiac intensive care unit.
This summer project, I engaged in my largest project to date. I was introduced to GRLZradio.org through one on of my favorite people, Saun Green. Saun, now the program director at GRLZ, invited me to meet the most inspiring teen girls from Dorchester. The program supported 20 girls per trimester though an afterschool program. Despite the uncomfortable space and outdated computer equipment, the girls found inspiration, love, and safety in the program. With a mission to support teen girls in both India and the US, our family rallied to donate the funds needs to design, clean-up, fit-up, and furnish a new space for GRLZRadio. In addition, through networking and marketing, we gained additional donations from Yale Appliance, Gift Hero, and many others.
On the work front...yes!!! I started a new job! I wrapped up with HVH Patient Precision Analytics this summer and landed a full-time role at Optum in September. I’m thrilled to continue my path in the healthcare data and analytics space. I’m in the Fenway office and look forward to reconnecting with my life sciences colleagues in the new year. No awards or launches to share, just getting back in the game!
And although “summer of Seema” has technically ended, I am hanging on to that feeling and life approach everyday. Cheers to the continued spirit of “summer of Seema’ !
